Housuke tends to be sarcastic and critical. He often makes blunt comments concerning his mentor Naruhodou Ryuuichi's piano playing in particular. He occasionally even shows some disdain for some of his clients. He also has a vain side; he frequently makes puns out of his own name, and he practices his shouting for hours at night, calling it his "Chords of Steel", which sometimes makes his voice raspy. Underneath it all, he is serious about his job, and he cares deeply about justice. He is also caring, frequently worrying about Trucy Wright as well as his clients. In court, Odoroki Housuke is often unsure of himself and easily flustered. He has been shown to suffer somewhat from stage fright in court. However, he is just as determined as his mentor was. His training under his former mentor, Kirihito Garyuu, has led him to rely mostly on facts and arguments, which often puts him at odds with Naruhodou's use of questionable tactics. Housuke has also adopted Kirihito's serious attitude, which conflicts with Wright's easygoing manner. Kristoph Gavin is a renowned defense attorney with his own law firm, and the former boss and mentor of Apollo Justice. He is Klavier Gavin's older brother. Kristoph Gavin can largely be summed up as “lawfully evil”. He made a point of striving for perfection in all areas of life, particularly in court, where he considered the law and evidence to be absolutes upon which all judgments should be made. This gave Kristoph an extreme sense of self-importance and superiority, particularly over "common" citizens not involved in legal studies. This ironically drove him to compromise the law by finding loopholes, and he eventually resorted to forgery for the sake of fame and glory. In committing his crimes, Kristoph showed great cunning and paranoia with almost every move he made. He was very determined in guarding his secrets at all costs. In the end, the Jurist System was needed to foil his plans. In 2019, renowned magician Magnifi Gramarye was murdered. As Zak Gramarye, one of his students, was to be tried for the murder, Gavin planned to use this opportunity to win the high-profile case. This desire caused him to do whatever it took to implicate the other half of Zak's magic act, Valant Gramarye. To this end, he asked a forger, Vera Misham, to manufacture a page in the victim's handwriting, which he would claim came from his diary. Gavin acted friendly towards Vera to gain her trust. Noticing that she had a habit of biting her nails whenever she was nervous, he planted atroquinine, an extremely deadly poison, in a bottle of nail polish and gave it to her as a gift, claiming that it was a "good luck charm" to soothe her fear. He told Vera that the magic of the charm would wear off if she told anyone about it. The idea behind this plot was that were she to become nervous, she would bite her nails, and effectively poison herself. He also laced a commemorative stamp of Troupe Gramarye with the same poison and sent it to Vera along with a letter, confirming the payment for the forgery and telling Drew to mail a receipt for the payment using the stamp. These poisons were planted so that the Mishams wouldn’t survive to talk about Gavin's involvement with them. However, Vera kept the stamp for herself (she is a fan of Troupe Gramarye), and replied to Gavin's letter with a different stamp. When Gavin offered his services to Zak, the defendant challenged him to a game of poker as a test of trust. Gavin lost the game and Zak rejected him as his attorney. Zak had seen the man behind the cards and concluded that he was untrustworthy. He instead called Phoenix Wright to his cell and, upon losing to him, hired him as his attorney. Gavin felt cheated out of his quest for glory over a poker game. He decided to plant the forged diary page onto Trucy Enigmar to give to Phoenix, to ruin both him and his new defendant. He then told Klavier about the forgery prior to the trial, and Klavier used this information to devise a trap to expose the forgery. When Wright presented the diary page as evidence, Klavier summoned Drew to the stand, who admitted to having forged the diary page. However, Zak vanished from the courtroom before the verdict could be read, ending the trial with no verdict. Seven years later, Zak reappeared to Wright under the name "Shadi Smith", and Kristoph saw his chance to kill him. He hid in a secret tunnel behind a cabinet in the basement of the Borscht Bowl Club, where Wright and Zak were playing poker, and waited for an opening during which he fatally attacked the man with a grape juice bottle. Wright made his accusation against Kristoph and replaced him as Justice's impromptu co-counsel. With Wright's help, Justice implicated Kristoph as the true culprit. About six months later, Drew sent a letter to Kristoph demanding that Kristoph remove the "magic" that he had placed on Vera. Having only the stamp that had been poisoned, he used it to send his letter. He died of atroquinine poisoning 15 minutes later, while Spark Brushel was interviewing him. Drew's daughter Vera was accused of committing the murder. Phoenix Wright convinced the judicial system to use this case to test the Jurist System. The trial traced the poison to the stamp that Kristoph had poisoned seven years before. Pressured, Vera bit her nails, finally consuming the poison. The trial was suspended, and Vera was hospitalized. The trial resumed the next day. Justice called Kristoph to the stand as a special witness. Kristoph convinced the judge to reject all of Phoenix's investigative evidence and claims. He was then informed about the implementation of the Jurist System, through which the court had the power to declare an innocent verdict regardless of decisive evidence. Klavier Gavin is Apollo Justice's rival. He is the younger brother of Justice's mentor, Kristoph Gavin. He is also the lead vocalist and guitarist of his own rock band, the Gavinners. Unlike Phoenix Wright's usual opponents, Klavier Gavin is quite honest and friendly. He maintains his rock-star mannerisms in the courtroom, and he avoids investigative work, but he takes both of his jobs very seriously. While he is a perfectionist when it comes to his music, he is more concerned about getting the right person convicted when he is in court, which is another major difference from Wright's rivals. As well, Klavier considers his music career a hobby and his law career his real passion. Klavier is also somewhat like Miles Edgeworth in that he shows respect for the judge, unlike some other prosecutors who frequently abuse the judge verbally or physically, or even do his job for him. Ema lost her parents in a car crash at a young age, so Lana is her only family. Lana raised Ema alone while pursuing her career, resulting in Ema's interest in forensics. Ema is cheerful and optimistic. She loves science, wanting to be a forensic investigator, and is set to go into forensics in 2020. She also deeply admires both her older sister Lana, and the prosecutor Miles Edgeworth, though she isn't a fan of his office. Ema somewhat lacks in common sense; when examining Wright's desk, she claimed to be studying for a history test and she inaccurately proclaimed George Washington to be "the first king of America." She also has a tendency to write down notes in her notepad, even if they're completely irrelevant to the case at hand. During the events of the SL-9 Incident, Ema was waiting for Lana in her office so that they could go out for dinner. Suddenly, the serial killer Joe Darke, who had escaped from his interrogation, burst into the room. Prosecutor Neil Marshall soon came to the rescue, engaging Darke in a fight. During the struggle, Ema saw a man about to stab another with a broken knife. Thinking the attacker was Darke, Ema pushed him, knocking him out. She lost consciousness soon afterward. When she woke up, Lana was cradling her in her arms, Neil was dead, and Darke had been recaptured. Detective Bruce Goodman interviewed Ema for evidence, but she could not remember anything clearly and was still shock from the experience. A couple of days later, she managed to draw a picture of one man stabbing another on the back of a list of the evidence used to convict Darke. Two years after the SL-9 Incident, on the last day in court during the events of "Rise from the Ashes", Ema testified about the SL-9 Incident, and the picture she had drawn came up. Eventually, Wright found out that Lana had believed Ema had killed Neil Marshall by accident, but soon proved that Gant was the real killer in both cases and that he had blackmailed Lana with the lie that her younger sister was the killer. Her personality underwent a dramatic shift when she failed to get her dream job in forensics, becoming much moodier than she was as a teenager and disliking talking to people unless they have something concerning forensics to discuss, otherwise, she usually ignore them. She also developed a great liking for "snackoos", spending large quantities of time vigorously munching on them and ignoring those around her. The sound of her munching became an identifying signal for Apollo Justice, and she sometimes throw snackoos at people who annoyed her. Ema's disregard for other people extend to her coworkers. She cannot stand prosecutor Klavier Gavin, calling him a "glimmerous fop" (which Apollo always tries to correct to "glamorous" in his head). According to Skye, prosecutors should be "simmerous" and "cool of wit and furrowed of brow" (likely referring to the more serious Miles Edgeworth). She's also resentful of Klavier for what happened to Phoenix Wright, since he had been the prosecutor at the trial that caused his disbarment, and thus she held him personally responsible. She recently became a fan of Klavier Gavin and his band, getting a large "allowance bonus" from her father to buy a great deal of their merchandise. She often orders "Extra-spicy" curry, just to make sure it is, in fact, spicy. However, the curry turns out to be too spicy for her, and she always wastes it. Despite her cheerful demeanor, Phoenix has said that she is hiding a deep sadness. This is understandable given that, as far as she knows, she has lost both her biological parents. Valant Gramarye is a highly prolific magician who is a member of Troupe Gramarye, a famous group of magicians. Valant maintains a high air of arrogance and prides himself on the larger-than-life persona he plays on stage. He is a true showman in every sense of the word. He wears yellow because that is his lucky color. He has a tendency to make puns that revolve around the word "Alakazam" when he is shocked and/or surprised. He also tends to use a substantial amount of alliteration when he speaks. It is possible that his arrogance is actually a front for a low self-esteem, as at one point, he admitted to Phoenix Wright that he actually doesn't believe himself to be a very talented magician. Valant Gramarye, along with Zak Gramarye, was an apprentice of the legendary magician Magnifi Gramarye. Together with Thalassa Gramarye, the group Troupe Gramarye was formed. Troupe Gramarye became a household name as their popularity rose to great heights. However, beneath all the fame and hype, there was a dark side to the Troupe. Rumors of a love triangle between Zak, Valant, and Thalassa persisted. Thalassa left the group when she married another stage performer, but when he died in an accident on stage, she returned to the group. Ultimately, she married Zak, having a daughter, Trucy, with him. Some time later, tragedy struck. During a rehearsal of a shooting trick in which Zak and Valant fired a series of bullets around Thalassa, she was hit by one of their bullets and was critically wounded. Magnifi managed to keep the accident a secret, but the relationship between the mentor and his pupils would never be the same, as he constantly hung Thalassa's "death" over their heads. Two years later, Magnifi was nearing the end of his life, confined to a hospital room with cancer and diabetes. A year afterward, Valant received a letter from Magnifi. Valant saw the letter for what it was, a test, and he came up with a plot to kill Magnifi and frame Zak for the crime, in order to inherit the legal rights to his mentor's magic. Valant arrived at Magnifi's hospital room at 11:20 p.m., as ordered. Magnifi was asleep in bed. However, Valant's nerve failed, and he couldn't bring himself to shoot his mentor, turning to leave instead. Magnifi, who was not really asleep, stopped him, telling him he'd already passed on his magic to Zak, and asking Valant to support him. Valant left the room a broken man, knowing that his career was over. As he stood out in the hall in shock, he suddenly heard a gunshot from inside the room. He quickly raced back inside, and found Magnifi dead. Magnifi had taken the gun and shot himself in the forehead. Hurt and angry, Valant went with his original plan to frame Zak for the crime. He moved the gun out of reach of Magnifi, injected some additional IV fluid into Magnifi's IV bag (to throw off the time of death), and then called the police. Thalassa Gramarye was the daughter of renowned magician Magnifi Gramarye. She was a magician's assistant in Troupe Gramarye, until she was accidentally shot during a magic show rehearsal. Nobody knows for certain what became of her, but she is thought to be dead. When Thalassa Gramarye was young, she left Troupe Gramarye to marry a guest performer from one of their shows, having a son, Apollo, with him. A year later, her husband was tragically killed on stage. She then married one of the members of the troupe, Zak Gramarye, and they had a daughter, Trucy, together. A few years later, during a rehearsal of "Zak & Valant's Quick-Draw Shootem", which required the use of prop pistols, Thalassa was shot. Her father quickly took charge to cover up the accident, to protect the Gramarye name. Zak and Valant believed Thalassa to be dead. However, she survived and ended up in the small European nation of Borginia. She lost her memory and her sight from the trauma, and thus she had to restart her life from scratch. To make her living, Thalassa began singing in a small restaurant. She called herself "Lamiroir", and she performed with a young piano player, Machi Tobaye. Lamiroir stayed in Borginia until a producer discovered her, and she toured the world. However, the producer came up with the title "The Landscape Painter in Sound" before finding out that Lamiroir was blind, so to be able to continue to use the title, they agreed under contract that Tobaye would pose as the blind member of the duo. No one else knew about this except Lamiroir's bodyguard, Romein LeTouse. Justice's defense inspired Lamiroir to go through with an eye operation, and she subsequently recovered her memory and her sight. However, Justice and Trucy continued to have no idea that they had seen their mother. Thalassa thanked Wright for all he had done, including allowing her to see her children and adopting Trucy. Phoenix asked whether she would reveal herself to them, and she replied that she would wait for the right moment. Winston Payne is a prosecutor known as the "Rookie Killer" due to his tendency to defeat novice defense attorneys. He is smug and overconfident, but can have trouble clearly articulating his arguments in court, and he begins to panic when his cases break down, to the point that witnesses sometimes defend themselves while ignoring him completely. Payne appears to view Phoenix Wright as a sort of nemesis due to repeated losses against him in court, though this is one-sided. Fellow prosecutors, such as Miles Edgeworth, also seem to have a difficult time remembering him. His younger brother, Gaspen Payne, is also a prosecutor.

Drew Misham was a painter and picture book illustrator. He was a recluse, rarely ever going outside and communicating only through letters, as he couldn't stand modern technology. He is Vera Misham's father. He also sold forged paintings on the black market. This life eventually led to his death at the hands of one of his clients, Kristoph Gavin, who left poisoned items at his home to prevent Drew (and his daughter) from talking about him. Drew Misham was a failing artist. His wife eventually left him to raise their daughter, Vera Misham, alone. Although he was able to make a modest income from his illustration work, it was not enough to give Vera the life he felt she deserved. One day, he discovered that Vera was able to copy his paintings perfectly. He then gave her other paintings to copy, and she could copy those perfectly as well. He sold these forged paintings under his name on the black market. One day, Kristoph Gavin asked Vera to forge a piece of evidence. However, only Vera was able to meet him in person. Later, Prosecutor Klavier Gavin approached Drew, instructing him to take the stand in a trial. During the trial, Drew testified that the journal page that Phoenix Wright had presented was a fake and that he had made it, not realizing that it would be used as evidence. Astonished at the calmness Wright exhibited as the trial abruptly ended, Drew asked for Wright's name for him to remember. Wright would later be disbarred for presenting illegal evidence. The Mishams later received a letter from the client who had requested the forgery. It contained $100,000 and a commemorative Troupe Gramarye stamp, which the client instructed that Drew use in a confirmation reply letter. The client also told the Mishams not to speak of what happened again. Drew also found that the client had given Vera a "magic charm" that would protect her from danger, though he never found out what that charm was. Drew sent the expected reply, but he did not use the designated stamp because Vera had grown attached to it. He instead put the stamp in a tiny picture frame. Unbeknownst to Drew, the stamp had been laced with atroquinine, and his intended murder had been delayed by his actions. Wright later visited Drew's home as a part of his investigation of the case that had gotten him disbarred. Drew told Wright about the life that he had with his daughter, but he was hesitant to talk about the forgery. Nevertheless, Wright was able to figure out that Vera was the true forger. After questioning Vera, Wright left to continue his investigation elsewhere. Seven years later, Drew grew fearful of Vera's secret charm and wrote a letter to the client, telling him to remove her "magic charm". Unable to find a stamp, he used the Troupe Gramarye stamp on the letter. The letter confirmed the payment for the forgery and told Drew to mail a receipt for the payment using the stamp. Vera grew attached to the commemorative stamp and wanted to keep it, so Drew used a different stamp to send the receipt. Seven years later, Drew wrote a letter to Kristoph Gavin; he used the Troupe Gramarye stamp, as he could find no other stamp to use. He later died during an interview with a reporter, leaving traces of atroquinine poison on his coffee mug; Vera served coffee to Drew every night at 9:00 p.m. This lead investigators to believe that Vera had poisoned the coffee, and thus Vera was arrested for her father's murder. Vera tried desperately to resist, saying she would die if she left the studio, but then she agreed to be taken outside with her "good luck charm". Daryan Crescend is the second guitarist of the Gavinners, and a detective for the international division of the Criminal Affairs Department. He is usually very serious and collected, keeping a cool and professional demeanor, but he is easily provoked. He is also be very condescending, showing great confidence in his own abilities and wasting no time in relishing in the apparent failures of others. However, he became increasingly infuriated and desperate when he was cornered. The judge described the smuggler who made the deal with the Chief Justice as a "cowardly opportunist", shortly before it was revealed that Crescend was said smuggler. Before the smuggling incident, he had a good relationship with both the police force and his fellow band members. Incuritis is a disease only curable by a potent antidote from the Borginian cocoon. However, this cocoon can also be used to create a deadly poison and thus it is illegal to export them. In fact, such an act is so serious that, in the cocoon's home country of Borginia, the penalty for smuggling Borginian cocoons is death. Because of this, when the Chief Justice found that his son had contracted the deadly disease, he resorted to desperate measures to save his son. The Chief Justice made a deal with Daryan Crescend to have him smuggle a cocoon into the United States. To this end, Crescend contacted Machi Tobaye, the pianist of the Borginian singer Lamiroir, and had him obtain a cocoon while Crescend's bandmate, Klavier Gavin, was visiting the country. Tobaye stashed the cocoon inside an acoustic guitar that Lamiroir gave to Gavin as a gift. He also planted a small incendiary device inside, which could be remotely detonated to destroy the evidence if they were caught. Since Gavin was using an evidence shipping company that was exempt from customs, the cocoon soon found itself in the United States. Crescend then stole Gavin's keys in order to open the guitar case, but found himself unable to retrieve the cocoon as the guitar was sealed in standard evidence wrapping. Adjusting his plans, he instead planned to take it out after the upcoming Gavinners concert, in which Gavin was to use the guitar for his performance of "The Guitar's Serenade" with Lamiroir and Tobaye. Tiala proposed to Wocky in order to gain all of his inheritance the moment he died from the wound. Six months later, however, Wocky was still alive, and a health checkup revealed that the bullet was still in his chest. Enraged, Wocky took a pistol from the family stash and was ready to give Meraktis "a taste of his own medicine." At one point, however, Tiala managed to get the gun away from Wocky and went to see Meraktis herself. Tiala threatened Meraktis with the pistol, telling him to open the safe and give her the medical report so she could dispose of it. She knew that if the Kitakis saw the report with her name on it, her plan would fail. Meraktis opened the safe, but then suddenly turned on Tiala, tackling her. She managed to get a shot off, but it missed and impacted the inside of the safe. Meraktis then strangled her with the cord from a lamp on his desk, causing her to black out. When she awoke, she was in Guy Eldoon's noodle cart. She heard Wocky and Meraktis talking, and realized that Meraktis was about to reveal that she was in on the plot. She quickly grabbed the pistol that was in the cart with her, aimed, and fired, shooting Meraktis in the head and silencing him permanently. Tiala heard running, then silence. Leaving the pistol in the cart, she got out and made her escape, throwing the clinic slippers she was wearing into the trashcan when she stepped in a mess of paint caused by Meraktis's earlier hit-and-run on Phoenix Wright. When she heard that Wocky was arrested for Meraktis's murder, she went and hired rookie attorney Apollo Justice, believing that he would fail miserably and get Wocky convicted. Desperate to protect herself, Tiala would later break into the Meraktis Clinic again to try to get the Medical Report from the safe. Shadi is Thalassa Gramarye's second husband, and is Trucy Wright's biological father. Zak had a confidence befitting a famous magician, and he was very jovial. However, he had a violently competitive side that showed when he played poker. He took great pride in his win record, going to great lengths to "punish" Wright for his victory over him, and turning his anger on Olga Orly when things didn't go his way. He was also rather violent toward Spark Brushel, punching him on several occasions when he revealed secrets that Zak didn't want revealed. Zak also used his poker games to read into his opponent's personalities. He used this to hire a trustworthy lawyer for his trial. However, Zak's ability to read his opponents was a practiced one, and it wasn't nearly as good as the natural "power" of his mentor and his wife. His mentor, Magnifi Gramarye, was eventually confined to the hospital with cancer and diabetes. A year later, Zak received a letter from his mentor. Per his mentor's orders, Zak came to the hospital at 11:05 PM. When he entered the room, Magnifi appeared to be asleep. The guns from "Zak and Valant's Quick-Draw Shoot'em" were on a table in front of the bed. Zak picked up one of the guns, and aimed it at Magnifi. However, he couldn't bring himself to shoot his mentor, so he turned and shot a clown doll in the corner square in the forehead. After Zak took his shot, Magnifi "awoke," telling Zak he passed. He then wrote a will passing on the rights to his magic to Zak, and tore the page he wrote it on out of his diary. They then had one last conversation as mentor and student, then Zak left the room, taking the gun with him. However, less than half an hour later, Magnifi was found dead in his room with a gunshot wound in the forehead, and Zak was arrested for the crime. Needing a defense attorney, Zak invited Kristoph Gavin to his cell to play a game of poker to see if he could trust the man. He determined that Gavin was untrustworthy, so he fired him. Later, Zak invited Phoenix Wright over to detention to play cards with him. Wright won; Zak saw good in Wright and hired him immediately. The next day, the trial took place. Meanwhile, Kristoph gave Zak's daughter Trucy a letter to give to Wright, who filed it into evidence. During the trial, Wright presented the evidence, believing that it was the page that had been ripped off of Magnifi's diary. However, the prosecution exposed the evidence as fake. The disappointed judge prepared to give a guilty verdict to Zak, telling him that he had the right to hire a new attorney to appeal his case. However, Zak told the court that it would be impossible to prove him guilty, because the court couldn't give a verdict to someone who didn't exist. He then suddenly disappeared. The prosecution immediately dispatched the baliff to find Zak. To distract the baliff, Zak used a decoy: Trucy's giant Mr. Hat puppet. The baliff spotted the puppet and gave chase, only to encounter Trucy in defendant lobby No. 2, with no Zak in sight. Meanwhile, Zak escaped the courtroom and disappeared. Seven years after Magnifi's death, Zak met Wright at the Borscht Bowl Club under the guise of a traveler named Shadi Smith. Refusing to follow in his father's footsteps as a noodle vendor, Guy Eldoon set out to make something of himself as a doctor. He set up a clinic in Los Angeles, but would later be run out of business by Dr. Pal Meraktis, a childhood rival who offered his services to the Kitakis. Without business, he soon resigned himself to his fate as a noodle vendor. One morning, Guy Eldoon found that his noodle stand was stolen. He quickly hired Apollo Justice, a lawyer Wright had taken under his wing, to find it, with a bowl of salty noodles as payment. Justice found the stand, but it had become part of the crime scene of the murder of Meraktis. As such, being stuck without his noodle stand, he promised to help Justice in any way he could. Magnifi Gramarye was the founding member of Troupe Gramarye, a group of stage magicians. Magnifi started his professional magic career around 2006. He became wildly popular in his prime, appearing on TV very frequently on many networks. He was said to have ushered in a golden age for stage magic, and his illusions defied imagination and were deemed miraculous. However, Magnifi was hospitalized and was rendered bedridden for about a year. By April 2019, he had less than three months to live. His death sparked a chain of events that resulted in the disappearance of Zak Gramarye, a blow to Valant Gramarye's reputation, and the disbarment of Phoenix Wright. Many aspiring magicians came through his door, but only two had the talent that he desired. These two men were given the stage names "Zak Gramarye" and "Valant Gramarye" and they became his students. Magnifi formed Troupe Gramarye with these students and his daughter, Thalassa Gramarye. In 2016, Troupe Gramarye was rehearsing "Zak and Valant's Quick Draw Shootem", which involved Zak and Valant Gramarye each aiming a prop pistol at Thalassa Gramarye. However, Thalassa was accidentally shot. Magnifi helped to cover the incident for the sake of the Gramarye name. Although he retired after the incident, he began to blackmail his students, who carried on Magnifi's legacy. Two years after the accident, Magnifi was hospitalized after being diagnosed with liver cancer. Combined with his existing diabetes, he was rendered bedridden for about a year. In his hospital bed, he wrote a letter to each of his disciples, telling them to "shoot, one shot, square in the forehead" with one of the two prop pistols that he would have with him. In reality, this was a test to determine which of the magicians, if any, would inherit the rights to the fundamental trick that served as the basis for all of Magnifi's magic. Magnifi knew that Zak would arrive first, and if Zak killed Magnifi, the rights to the trick would be gone forever. If Zak or Valant failed to shoot, he would fail the test and not inherit the trick. Zak came first, as expected, while Magnifi was apparently asleep. Because he could not bring himself to kill his mentor, he shot the forehead of a nearby clown doll. Magnifi then informed Zak that this was the right answer. Subsequently, he tore out the last page of his diary and wrote his will, giving Zak all the rights to his magic. Valant showed up next, intending to shoot Magnifi and frame Zak for the murder, but he could not do it and turned to leave. Magnifi woke up, telling him that he had failed the test, and that he had already given his trick to Zak. After Valant left the room, Magnifi shot himself in the forehead. Valant heard the gunshot and returned. Finding his mentor dead, he decided to frame Zak after all. He manipulated the crime scene to give himself an alibi and to prevent the death from looking like a suicide, which left Zak as the only possible killer. Zak was subsequently arrested and put on trial, and Valant was set up as a witness. Zak rejected Kristoph Gavin as his attorney and chose Phoenix Wright instead. Furious, Kristoph decided to seek revenge. He planted a fake page from Magnifi's diary (which he had intended to use as Zak's attorney) onto Wright and told his brother, Klavier Gavin, who was to prosecute, of the fake evidence that Wright was going to present. During the trial, Wright presented the diary page, not knowing that it was forged, and Klavier revealed the fraud for what it was. However, before the judge could give his verdict, Zak disappeared from the courtroom. Wright was later stripped of his lawyer badge. Wright nevertheless continued his investigation of Magnifi's murder. Wright's cross-examination of Valant had indicated that Valant was probably the real killer, which turned Wright and the public against him. Only after seven years did Wright finally hear from Valant what had really happened to Magnifi. Magnifi's magic was possible due to an innovative fundamental trick. This trick was considered his property, and the rights to this trick was the basis behind the test that he had devised for his students before his death. Mike Meekins is a clumsy and excitable individual who was an initial suspect in the murder of Bruce Goodman in the evidence room of the Los Angeles police department. As well as being clumsy and excitable, Mike is an overzealous individual. He often salutes, calls everyone "sir", and uses his megaphone for dramatic effect even if the person he is talking to is standing right beside him. His clumsiness is easily demonstrated by the fact that he cannot even get out of his car without getting his tie caught in the car door two-thirds of the time; the remaining times it's his I.D. card. He even bungled bandaging a cut on his hand by covering his entire hand in bandages. Perhaps appropriately, considering his excitability and clumsiness, he aspires to one day to be like Detective Dick Gumshoe. Mike also appears in Gyakuten Kenji during the events of "The Kidnapped Turnabout", in which he was assigned the role of dressing up as the Blue Badger at Gatewater Land. He reappeared again in Apollo Justice in "Turnabout Succession", apparently being demoted to court bailiff after one too many mistakes. "Hickfield" likes "examining" pretty girls and claims his speciality to be in "young, silky-smooth hottie patients". "Hickfield" also likes to spread gossip about the attractive female patients in the clinic, although he claims to "become 'embarrassed'" when talking about them, to which Wright begged him not to elaborate further. Pal Meraktis was a doctor who ran the Meraktis Clinic until he was killed as a result of a malpractice incident. Meraktis was not very honest in his profession. He was willing to become a mob doctor to ensure success over his rivals. His fear of retribution by the mob drove him to cover up his failed operation on Wocky Kitaki, and this drove him to violently attacking Alita Tiala after finding out that the cover had been blown. Around December of 2025, Wocky Kitaki was shot during a turf war with the Rivales family and was immediately sent to the Meraktis Clinic. Meraktis, with the assistance of Nurse Alita Tiala, immediately began the operation. However, when he discovered where the bullet was lodged, he knew that there was no way to remove it without killing the patient. However, if he told the Kitaki family that the surgery failed, the family would have killed him for his failure. Thusly, Meraktis wrote up a fake report claiming the surgery was a success, sewed Wocky back up, and released him from the clinic. He then locked away the real report in a safe in his office. The real report was his insurance, since it also had Tiala's name on it, so she couldn't rat him out to the Kitakis without putting herself in danger. Meraktis thought he was in the clear, knowing that even if he didn't get himself killed anyway thanks to his reckless behavior, the bullet in Wocky's chest would eventually cause him to drop dead, and Meraktis would be able to cover up the cause of his death permanently. When Alita Tiala informed Meraktis that Wocky Kitaki intended to kill him for his botched operation, Meraktis flew into a rage and strangled Tiala until she passed out. Thinking she was dead, Meraktis intended to dump the body into the river that ran through People Park. However, his car wouldn't start, because Wesley Stickler had jammed Trucy Wright's panties into the tailpipe of the car to hide them. So Meraktis stole Eldoon's noodle cart and hid the unconscious Tiala inside the cart. However, when Meraktis arrived at People Park, Kitaki confronted him, carrying a knife. At this time, Tiala recovered just as Stickler arrived on the scene. While everyone outside was distracted by Stickler, Tiala pulled out her handgun and shot Meraktis while his head was turned.
