Thinking she could use Ascot's charmer tendencies to her advantage, our protagonist is warned by John and Goneril that such an endeavor may be too large of a responsibility. As she spends her days unconvinced it may be an issue, Ascost suggests they pretend to be lovers, and despite pretending to understand his reasoning, she can't grasp his true intentions.
