Military advisor and deputy commander of the Shinsengumi. Head of the Guardian of the Imperial Tomb. Both his extensive knowledge of literature and his skilled swordsmanships resulted in his invitation to join the Shinsengumi as a key figure. He works as the advisor for Kondou.

Matsumoto Ryoujun

Shogunate palace doctor. He works as a doctor for the shogunate western medicine in Nagasaki. He looks after the Shinsengumi under the shogunate orders. Supposedly he is a friend of the protagonist's father.

Miki Saburou

三木三郎

The Shinsengumi's captain of the 9th Division. He is the brother of Kashitaro Itou, and he joins the Shinsengumi at the same time as his brother. He finds interest in the protagonist and picks on her. Together, he and his brother leave the Shinsengumi to form the Guardian of the Imperial Tomb.

Motoyama Kotarou

本山小太郎

Hatamoto of the Tokugawa Shogunate and a friend of Iba Hachiro. His duties are of a clerical nature for the shogunate, and he does not partake or excel in swordsmanship. Because of this, he is somewhat intimidated by the Shinsengumi, and he only travels to Kyoto to accompany Iba.

Nakaoka Shintarou

中岡慎太郎

A former ronin of the Tosa Domain. Nakaoka Shintarou is a longtime associate of Sakamoto Ryouma who cooperates with the Imperial Nationalist party. A doctor practicing western medicine and the protagonist's father. He was hired as the shogunate's doctor and was working in Kyoto, but is currently missing.
