A slightly tomboyish girl raised in the country. She's very athletic, and loves cycling, swimming, and climbing trees. She was a member of the swim team at her school, alongside her friend Miyabi. Although she is generally a kind person, she has quite a cruel sense of humor, and has a habit of teasing people if she likes them. She is also prone to being sarcastic -- and can be quite stubborn when she wants her own way. These qualities probably drive her potential love interests away; but she doesn't seem to show much concern for such things, anyway. Her favorite food is pudding she has stolen from her little sister, and her favorite flowers are sunflowers.

A young doctor, who graduated from medical school only a year ago. He's been working in a small hospital in a countryside town for the past four months or so. He's the son of a relatively rich family, which means he had a fairly privileged childhood. However, his parents were rather strict, and had high expectations of him. Being a shy and fairly anxious child, he found the pressure exerted on him by his parents too stressful -- and constantly felt as though he was letting them down. Part of the reason he became a doctor may have been to placate them. He isn't a naturally intelligent person, so he had to study hard to achieve his current position. He's especially dense when it comes to understanding the emotions of others -- though he tries hard.

Karuta's little sister, Koume. She has just started primary school. She's quite a loud, rowdy child, and often throws temper tantrums if she can't get what she wants. She also has a habit of breaking Karuta's things if she's in a bad mood. She also eats things she shouldn't -- such as the mold Karuta was growing for that science project... As such, she can be tiring to deal with. The best way to calm her down is to take her for long walks, like a puppy. She loves a silly magical girl anime called "Strawberry Witches Start!", and likes to sing the theme tune of it very, very loudly, whenever she has the chance. She also enjoys drawing -- though her artistic skills aren't particularly nuanced just yet. Her life's ambition is to one day become a pumpkin.

She's a rather fashion-conscious girl, who dislikes the fact that she lives in such a small village, as there are no decent shopping centers nearby. Her dream is to live somewhere in the city, in a fancy apartment with a fancy boyfriend, and maybe a cat or two. However, despite her grand dreams, she's somewhat irresponsible, and not particularly concerned about her studies. If she applied more seriously, maybe she could do better, but... Perhaps she is not really as troubled by her quite lifestyle as she says.

Satoru's wife. The two of them met in medical school, and have been together for seven years. Maiko is a very witty conversationalist, and oozes with self-confidence. She enjoys hosting dinner parties, and takes great delight in being surrounded by people. If left by herself for too long, she becomes gloomy. However, this is very unlike her shy husband -- so the two of them often have disagreements about the best way to spend their free time... Although she went to medical school, she ended up working in an office, and is the boss of a small group of people. Because of her excellent leadership skills, she's considered a valuable asset to her company. She enjoys over-the-top gory movies, and her favorite flowers are spider lilies. Her least favorite activity is washing dishes or doing laundry.

She acts very bratty around her dad because he's too weak-willed to scold her properly, but she behaves herself impeccably around her mother. One of her newfound hobbies involves pulling her teeth out the moment they begin to feel even just a little bit wobbly -- even though it must be far too early for them to fall out yet... Her favorite food is smoked cheese, and her dream is to have a large, white dog she can ride on.

Karuta's childhood best friend. They've known each other since they were five, when Daisuke's family moved to the countryside from the city. At first, he had trouble getting adjusted to living in such a secluded place, so Karuta helped him out. He cycles to school with Karuta every single morning -- although he isn't as fast as Karuta, so she often teases him about it. He may or may not have a crush on Karuta; it's difficult to tell. The pair of them seem especially close, however; even if they do squabble constantly about silly things. Although he pretends to be tough, he's actually surprisingly afraid of urban legends and horror stories. This may be why he isn't entirely comfortable living in the country -- because of all the creepy noises you hear at night...

One of Karuta's friends. A very tall girl with a somewhat gloomy face; she is very serious, and often takes on the role of being the "responsible adult" if anything goes wrong. If she doesn't live in such a small village, where everybody knows one another, she would be mistaken for a grown woman constantly. She is very refined and elegant, and enjoys silent movies and classical literature. She also likes tea (though, contrary to her character, her favorite type is marshmallow tea). She wants to be a doctor, and studies hard every day to achieve this dream. As such, she doesn't have much time for playing around. Even so, despite her sophisticated manner, she has quite a dry sense of humor, and enjoys card games.
